Now if you are truly looking for something very special, something surrounded in deep history, you will find it in our Kodo Series hand made bokuto. They are made using only our top choice high impact grade Appalachian Hickory. The process starts by selecting the perfect graining in a particular board, which may take searching through a hundred pieces. I was taught to look for this particular grain pattern by Sekiguchi Komei Sensei himself (21st Soke Yamauchi-Ha Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu).
Next, the pattern is cut out using only traditional Japanese saws, such as the Kataha Noko Giri. The bokuto is then subjected to a series of Japanese files (Shinto saw rasps), plans (Fuunji, Unsai, and Fujihisa), and shaping tools (Kamaji knives) before it is ready for final finishing and oiling. Sand paper and modern machines never touch these spectacular pieces. They are truly individual works of art, each one containing a powerful soul that you will be able to feel the moment you pick it up. Each one of these magnificent pieces will be papered through the Komei Jyuku Bukikan to ensure their authenticity. Below are images of some tool that we use on our traditional bokuto.
